The Power of Intention

Years ago we lived in a different home. It was finished and furnished on the interior, the gardens were mature and we mustered all the charm we could on the exterior with proper selection of paint colors, strategically placed window boxes and appropriate addition of trellises. We were complacent with the interior, but not completely satisfied with our home’s exterior. Achieving the character we desired would have taken a major exterior renovation.

I knew a very talented architect, Wayne Visbeen, who could transform the exterior of our existing home. As fate would have it, on our meeting day Wayne was running a bit late. I remember thinking that it would be a perfect opportunity for Steve (my husband) and I to do what I had been requesting of my clients for years, a Heaven on Earth exercise.

Below is the rendering that Wayne did for us on that day in the Spring of 2003, based on our exercise.

Rendering by Architect, Wayne Visbeen Spring 2003

We loved Wayne’s vision, but that great of an investment would not have been a wise decision in terms of the real estate market. So we rolled up his beautiful drawing and forgot about it.

Our Home, Purchased Fall 2003

Above is a photo of our current home that we purchased in the Fall of 2003. Years after we moved, I found the drawing that we had tucked away and looked at it again. I was amazed by the similarities between the rendering and our home. Our house had a bay window and the chimney in the exact same place. It’s architecture incorporated dormers and the steep pitched roofline. And, it even had the curved brick wall (on right) finished off with the column and topped with stone.

Our Heaven On Earth Exercise, Completed Spring 2003

This discovery drove me to find the Heaven on Earth exercise that we did together on that day. Our home featured eighteen of the twenty four items that we listed including; a welcoming entrance, front entry with center table, greenhouse, a room for each child, dark wood staircase, window boxes, lush landscape, natural materials on exterior, outside shower, blurred lines between interior and exterior, undulating driveway, charm, elegance and sophistication.

This is the power of intention!

So much manifested without conscious effort from us. Now, imagine if you complete your Heaven on Earth exercise, keep it accessible and intentionally use it as your guide. There is no doubt that you will find your Heaven on Earth.
