Paging through a magazine years ago, I spied the quintessential picnic basket tucked into the of the corner of a two page photo spread. It looked very well made with classic styling and a great finish. The cherry on top was the fact that this particular basket was also a cooler. No more big, clunky, agreeably unsexy blue cooler for us. This started my love affair with Peterboro Basket Company.

I placed my first call to this “Made in the USA” company located in New England and spoke with a kind older women on the phone, her voice sounded like a nice grandma as she walked me though the order process. I knew the company was smallish when I asked if they currently had the Peterboro Ice Master in the honey finish, and she half covered the phone and in a muffled voice I heard “Hey, Frank do we have…” No switchboards, high tech phone systems or even hold buttons, apparently, at this place. The next time I called a pleasant young woman’s voice answered the phone, Lindsay, and I commented on the fact this must be another person today because the voices sound different. “Yeah, you probably spoke to my grandma last time, this is a family business”, she said. Suspicion confirmed. And, yet another reason to love and support this company.
