mTip: Enlist Your Animals To Help Recycle

Ever wonder if it’s worthwhile to recycle something like a glass peanut butter jar when it seems to take gallons of water to clean it before recycling? If so, I have a solution for you:

Furry friends can help!
(Seriously, this works.)

Dirty glass is not accepted by the mysterious powers-that-be at the recycling plant.

Give your dog first dibs.
For safety reasons, I hold the jar while Chester gets his treat but for this shot I could not juggle both jar and camera. (Hope you understand. He was fine.) After your puppy has his fill, bring jar to area of your yard where you do not mind attracting chipmunks or squirrels and place jar on the ground. I bring our jars out to our compost pile area in the far corner of our yard. I’ve been doing this for over a year and have never had any broken glass. Our furry friends seem to be pretty delicate when it comes to lickin’ the glass clean.

Voila!
One week later this is what you’ll find.
Clean glass and metal for the recycler.
No water used.

Oh, what a hoot! I never would have thought of that! Course, I don’t have a dog, but I do have a love bird! I wonder how she feels about peanut butter? By the way, I love the bog picture too! Certainly a courageous move to jump in there, you two!
