Raw For 30 Days 1/30: Strategy!

Raw Mexican Extravaganza!

I’ve always wanted to do it and now I’m finally doing it, 100% RAW for 30 days! This means that everything that I eat and drink for one month will be raw and living; fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts and grains. Nothing will be heated above 117*. This is so all of the nutrients and enzymes remain intact, bio-available and ready to rock and roll in my body.

30 Day Raw Detox:
No Meat- No Problem
No Dairy- No Problem
No Refined Sugar- Ehhh, No Problem
No Caffeine- I LOVE TEA!
No Alcohol- I LOVE SIPPING VINO WITH MY HUSBAND!

I’ve been doing 30 day detoxes (including juice fasting and water fasting) approximately four times a year for five years, however I’ve never done one completely raw. This is new and exciting territory for me. It really is the most delicious, vibrant food on the planet. Now I have an excuse to eat it exclusively. However, raw food is not readily available around these parts so it takes some planning.

Strategy:
1.) Recruit a friend because it’s always more fun to share an adventure with someone else. My Raw For 30 Days friend is Emily Richett Entertainment Host of Fox-17. She’s a vegan who studied plant-based nutrition through Cornell University, she is a certified raw food chef and she is always on the lookout for healthy lifestyle ideas.

2.) Stock up on essentials: Plant enzymes, probiotics, Young Thai coconuts, sprouts, rejuvelac, maca, fruits, veggies, seeds and nuts. Luckily my garden is overflowing with kale and swiss chard right now so we’ll have no problem making green smoothies and green soup.

3.) Say goodbye to my beloved tea. I had my final sips last Friday. With Scottish blood coursing through my veins, tea is LIFE to me. Unfortunately, it’s not on the menu for the next 30 days. Detoxing off of caffeine is no fun so I chose to do it over the weekend so my family could help me. They had my back this weekend, and then some! GREAT NEWS…I made it to the other side. It’s Monday and I’m alive without tea. It can be done!!!

Emily, looking a bit nervous while jotting down notes and recipes as we strategize for our de-lish culinary feat!
Me, nervous too, but I can’t let Emily know so I’m smiling.

The most difficult part of the next thirty days is not going to be feeding myself but it’s going to be feeding my family AND feeding myself at the same time. That will be time consuming and tempting. But, since we’re diving in head first…off we go!
