Getting Raw at Gilda’s Club: “The Basics”

This week my daughter and trusty sous-chef, Ellie, and I had the honor of teaching a raw, plant-based cuisine workshop, “The Basics”, to eager Gilda’s Club members and staff. What a great place to spread the knowledge of food that heals!

Because this was our first raw food workshop here, we kept it simple.

Raw, Plant-Based Cuisine: Any fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, grains, seeds, nuts and sprouts that have not been heated over 117* (or thereabouts).

Why?: Common sense tells us that outside if the temperature reaches 117* (or thereabouts) things wither and die. It follows that at this temperature, food dies. Enzymes die. Vitmins die. Nutrition dies.

Raw foodies like to eat things that are ALIVE so that we can absorb all those vital enzymes, essential vitamins, and power-packed nutrition. Then we use them all to THRIVE. The ideal is to live a life without sickness or disease. However, raw, plant-based cuisine can also be used as part of a cure…
