Margaux’s Holiday Nog

This weekend will be filled with fun holiday festivities. Here’s a seasonal beverage that’s sure to jingle a few bells, my Holiday Nog (V/GF). Hold the naughty sugars and add all of the nice spice! Enjoy the delicious flavor of this beverage while not worrying about the saturated fat or alcohol used in traditional egg nog. Grab your blender and let the holiday jingle-jangle begin!

Holiday Nog
(v/gf)
makes 2 cups
1 C Almond milk, or make your own
1/4 C Coconut milk, canned or make your own with young thai coconuts
1/2 Banana, medium-large
1 T Golden flax seeds, ground
3 Dates, pitted
1/8 C Maple syrup
1 t Vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean
1 t Cinnamon, ground
1/2 t Allspice
1/2 t Nutmeg, plus extra for garnish
1/2 t Clove, plus extra for garnish
Topping
1/8 C Coconut milk, canned
2 T Maple syrup
Preparation:
Place all ingredients for the nog in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth and creamy, then pour into glasses. Whisk together the ingredients for the topping then carefully drizzle it over the top of the nog in a “S” shape. Swirl the two together with a small wooden stick (like a chopstick or a shish kabob skewer) to form a pretty pattern, then sprinkle the top of the drink with ground nutmeg and clove.
Multiply the recipe and serve in a punch bowl.
