‘Tis the season to eat, drink and be a little too merry…Opps! It happens to the best of us, right? If you should find yourself in this situation, use my Beet Inflammation Elixir. Beets are packed with nutrients and research has shown that beet juice can lower high blood pressure in one day
! The beet greens are alkalizing, which is anti-inflammatory and energizing. Pineapple contains bromelain which historically has been used for stomach ailments as well as to curb inflammation. Fresh ginger can also calm an upset stomach and has anti-inflammatory properties. Sound like something that could help after a Thanksgiving feast? You bet.
Beet Inflammation Elixir
Makes approx. 1 qt.
2” Ginger, with peel (works best if put through juicer first)
1/4 C Sprouts (works best if put through juicer first)
2 Gold beets, with greens
1/2 Fennel bulb, with greens
1/4 Pineapple, with rind
1 Cucumber, with peel
3 Celery stalks
2 Limes, with peel
Preparation: Put all ingredients through a produce juicer and enjoy! Don’t have a juicer? Put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Then, run through a reusable produce bag (available at D&W Fresh Market-Knapp’s Crossing) and gently squeeze to remove the pulp from the juice. compost or freeze the pulp for later use and toss the bag in the dishwasher to clean!
