While we are all enjoying the last few weeks of summer, we can still get a jump start on the more regimented schedules of fall by adding a new recipe to our culinary repertoires. Chocolate is a superfood full of antioxidants and it’s a mood lifter, which definitely comes in handy on busy back-to-school mornings.

What I love about this smoothie is that there are dark leafy greens and sprouts in it. Heck, when is the last time you saw anyone eating those for breakfast? Shhhhhh, not even the pickiest of eaters will taste that they are in the mix (make sure to check for allergies, of course). This recipe is a testament to the fact that you can make healthy food that tastes GREAT!

Good Mood Superfood Chocolate Smoothie
(v/gf)
Makes 2 cups

1 C Plant-based milk (almond, rice or soy)
1 Banana, frozen
5 Dates, pitted
1 T Cocoa powder
1/2 Vanilla bean, fresh
1/3 C Spinach
1/3 C Alfalfa sprouts
Preparation:
Place all of the above in a blender and blend until smooth. Add 3-5 ice cubes if you do not have a frozen banana on hand or if you simply want your smoothie colder.
